My first glimpse of Croatia came from the Adriatic Sea, early on a sunny summer Sunday morning. Misty mountains in the distance took shape, eventually revealing Dubrovnik, a beautiful, historic city in the south of Croatia. The city, the scenery, the surrounding coastline, and the people exceeded all expectations. (The food - not so much.)
Dubrovnik is an amazing city to walk. Not long ago, bombs were falling on the town, buildings were being destroyed daily - with the exception of a few signs of shrapnel damage on building walls, you\'d never know that there had been a war here so recently. Thankfully peace has arrived, and the old town has been beautifully restored.
A short distance north, we found Korcula, another beautiful seaside retreat. Winding historical streets, cold clear water and a warming sun welcomed us, leading us to extend our stay to soak it all in.
